B for Blog, or B for Brave?

Up until now I’ve resisted prompts to start a blog. Actually, I used to be a little afraid to do it for a variety of reasons, but with the launch of this new website, I’ve taken the plunge and hope you enjoy my regular posts.

My previous resistance gave me the idea for this week’s topic:

What would you do today if you were brave?

Is there something that you’d love to do, be or have, but haven’t tried yet because, well...

– What would the neighbours think?

What if I ask someone for this thing and the answer is ‘no’?

– What if it changes my life?

– What if it doesn’t?

– What if I get emotionally hurt?

– What will it cost me?

– What would happen if I fail?

… and so the list goes on and on. The list is undoubtedly different for all.

Ponder this question for five minutes and write down all the things that you have put off either temporarily or permanently because … well, you’ll know why.

Then looking at your list, ask yourself ‘what would I do today if I were brave?’

Of course please carefully consider your personal safety, and that of others, when you embark on any new project.

By stopping to really think about ‘why you might have avoided doing certain things’, it gives you the opportunity to consider another few questions …

– What is the worst that could happen?

– If this thing did happen, could I live with the consequences? and

– What is it costing me to not try, or not do, this thing?

When you stretch yourself a little here and there, you’ll notice over time that it becomes easier to achieve your goals, and often you’ll find that the scary thing wasn’t nearly so spooky or difficult to achieve when you took it step by step.

You may also notice that if you make a mistake, or don’t reach your goal right away, the world doesn’t come to an end. You can usually have another go, and another, and another if necessary and sooner or later you’ve accomplished something that you may have never tried because of some limiting belief.

Have fun with this and if you are willing to share your results with the rest of us, please do so here.

Hi Julie, I've recently started a blog and Facebook and had some of those fears too which caused me to be very hesitant about it. As a fairly private person, the idea of such public visibility in this 'invisible' way was intimidating.
I noticed recently though that I was quite enjoying Facebook after all!
I love your work and wish you continuing and growing success.
    Warm regards
